Christian "Chucho" Benítez, also known as Chucho, was an Ecuadorian professional footballer who played as a striker. He was born on May 1, 1986, in Quito, Ecuador, and passed away on July 29, 2013, at the age of 27.
Benítez began his professional career with Ecuadorian club El Nacional before moving to Mexico to play for Santos Laguna, Club América, and Club Tijuana in the Liga MX. He also had a brief stint in Europe with Birmingham City in the English Premier League.
Benítez was known for his pace, strength, and clinical finishing ability, earning him the nickname "Chucho." He represented the Ecuador national team, scoring 24 goals in 58 appearances and playing in two FIFA World Cups (2006 and 2014).
Tragically, Benítez passed away due to complications from acute appendicitis shortly after joining Qatari club Al-Jazira, shocking the football world and leaving fans mourning the loss of a talented and beloved player.
